Come to the opening night festivities! 7:30 at the largest publicly funded gallery in all of Northwestern Ontario, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery - in the bush at the back end of the parking lot behind Confederation College. I will be showing over fifty works in the main gallery! (That’s a lot of framing)Also showing in a seperate gallery is Kady MacDonald Denton. She has won a number of awards including the GG in 1998 for her illustration. It will be a pleasure to meet a notable Canadian artist in the field of children’s picture books.

The Illustrations for my picture books will be featured. New adult works (themes and images not directly intended for children) were to be painted, but time constraints as a result of teaching and traveling (to promote my books) have interfered. I will be able to get a few paintings completed, and the show will be great, but there are other painting ideas with images and statements that I simply can’t get to in time for this show. This and new technologies and interests has forced me to reconsider my approach to painting.

I’ve become a master at crosslayering functions in my art, so that parts of one project can be used for another - an example is the HEGGADRAMYTH film script I’m now working on. I’ve decided to combine the script with the story board, not only to save time, but to get a graphic novel out of it as well that I can pitch to a publisher at some time in the future. Many images for the graphic novel will come from large acrylic paintings on canvas. These will appear in my art show, but will also be used in the animated scenes in the movie which will incorporate live actors using green screen technology. As a result, these paintings also become matt paintings. So, over time, one painting will have four succinct uses, each use generating interest and possible funds from four different sources. A state of mind that I have to maintain throughout the next few months is one that submerges the character and desires of the stereotyped self-expressive modernist in favour of a dirty get-down time saving practical approach where the functions of the various projects decide what the art will eventually look like. In otherwords, to hell with aesthetic theory or any predigested understanding of what anyone thinks art should be - I will paint in a manner and style that will get the best results that each function demands of the visuals. I couldn’t tell you at this point what the results will look like.

Here ye here ye. Starting Wednesday, March 19th, Definitely Superior Art Gallery is hosting a Confederation College Multimedia Art show in a shared space at 16 S. Court St. (the old Locomotion south of Red River and Court). The show will run for 1 week to help encourage more walking traffic in our downtown core.

After visiting the space on Saturday, I see that we have enough room for 10-14 - 24”X36” prints and a plasma display for motion. We also can project moving images onto the front window of the venue next door.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

If you are interested in having your art shown, please send me your work via email. I have limited time to put all of the work together, so please have work submitted by the end of today or tomorrow at the absolute latest.

3D Renderings, Photography and Bitmap Graphics – Must be a minimum of 3600 pixels tall or wide.

Vector Graphics – Submit your vectors as Adobe Illustrator or PDFs.

Video or Motion Graphics – Please submit your work as MOVs at NTSC standard size. You can export this way straight from Flash.

NOTE: SPACE IS LIMITED SO WORK MAY BE EXCLUDED. THIS IS NOT A SYMPTOM OF QUALITY BUT MORE OF TIME, SO PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR WORK EARLY.
